MISSIONS

As followers of Jesus, we are called to live our faith beyond the walls of the church. The United Methodist Church reminds us that Christian discipleship means being the hands and feet of Christ in the world, loving our neighbors through acts of compassion, justice, and service. At FUMC Plano, missions is how we put that calling into action, serving our community, caring for those in need, and sharing God’s grace in tangible ways. Whether through weekly outreach, local partnerships, or hands-on service projects, we believe every act of love reflects Christ’s presence in our community.

PLANO OVERNIGHT WARMING STATION (POWS)

POWS, located in the Salvation Army building on 14th Street, provides a safe secure overnight sleeping environment for those in the greatest need when temperatures fall below freezing. Leadership Opportunity - FUMC Plano is in need of a team leader! For more information on the team leader duties or to volunteer for one of the many positions available contact Ruth Roberson. There are positions that include client contact (check-in, shower assistant) and non-contact (setup, tear down).

PROJECT TRANSFORMATION

Project Transformation, founded by leaders of the North Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church, has a two-fold mission: 1) Leadership development and ministry exploration opportunities for college-age young adults through summer and one-year service internships and 2) Community-oriented after-school and summer day camp programming for children and youth.

The young adults lead programming, giving them authentic, hands-on experiences leading high-quality programs for children and youth and equally important, learning from the children and youth. FUMC Plano supports Project Transformation by providing intern meals during the summer. Leadership Opportunity - A church liason for Project Transformation is needed! Summer volunteer opportunities are available at sites throughout the DFW metroplex. Donations for meals should be designated “Project Transformation”. For more information on becoming FUMC Plano’s Project Transformation liason or summer volunteering contact Leslie Harris or Debbie Ison.

FAMILY PROMISE

PEOPLE WHO LOVE PEOPLE

People Who Love People is a group of faith-based interdenominational volunteers who share meals with Plano homeless and food insecure at the Day Labor Center every Monday and Thursday morning. They also distribute nonperishable food items that can help throughout the week. God’s love is shown, food is provided and friendships are made! This can only happen through generous donations and volunteers!

Donate : New men’s socks (prefer black), bottled water, individually packaged healthy/high protein snacks such as: Nutrigrain cereal bars, chewy granola bars, nuts, trail mix, beef sticks & cheese, peanut butter crackers. 160-200 of each item are needed each week to meet the needs of this ministry. You can leave your donations in the church office.

Volunteer: Join us any Monday or Thursday morning in the parking lot just south of the Plano Day Labor Center, across the street from the Parker Road Dart Station. We begin setting up at 7:30 a.m., begin serving at 7:45, and are cleaned up and ready to depart by 8:30.
